Betrayal
When an assassination links a veteran MI5 agent to a conspiracy, he races to find the truth and protect his career, his marriage, and his country.
Betrayal is a gripping four-part espionage thriller for ITV1 and ITVX, set against the high-stakes backdrop of MI5. Directed by BAFTA and Emmy nominee Julian Jarrold (A Very Royal Scandal) and written by award-winning playwright David Eldridge, the premium drama explores a fragile web of human relationships where loyalty and deception collide.
The series stars Shaun Evans (Endeavour) as John Hughes, a mid-career intelligence officer navigating a rapidly evolving espionage landscape. When an encounter with a gangland informant takes an unexpected turn, John finds himself under intense internal investigation. Struggling to save his marriage to Claire (Romola Garai) amidst the secrecy of his world, John becomes convinced of an imminent plot on UK soil involving a hardline faction of the Iranian regime. Forced to step aside, he forms an unlikely alliance with the operative taking over his duties (Zahra Ahmadi) as he races to identify the target and avert an attack—all while fearing the real enemy may be closer to home.
Produced by Mammoth Screen (Code of Silence) in association with Navarino Pictures and distributed by ITV Studios, the series features a stellar ensemble cast including Nikki Amuka-Bird, Gamba Cole, and Omid Djalili.
